HEY, C’EST MOI, PHOEBE!
I was a busy child. Busy making things, writing stories, making plans. Somewhere along the way, that turned into a career; in the arts, in storytelling, in supporting other creative people to do their best, boldest work. The urge is still the same: create, connect, make sense of things.
I studied Fine Art (BA Painting) at Central Saint Martins and spent seven years immersed in the gallery world, working across curation, public programming, and creative direction. I saw first hand how art moves people, builds connection, and creates cultural change.
Today, I’m the External Affairs and Communications Lead at SHiFT UK, a national organisation working to break cycles of harm for young people caught in, or at risk of, the care and crime systems. I lead on public narrative, campaigns, publications, and brand strategy, shaping how we show up in the world and how we tell more truthful, human stories about young people and systems change.
My communications work focuses on narrative strategy, creative direction, and platform-building for purpose-led organisations. I care about voice, clarity, and finding the language that helps people feel seen. I believe communications can be a powerful tool for justice, advocacy, and change, when we let it be.
This move into social justice might seem like a pivot, but it’s actually kind of a return? I grew up in a home where both creativity and justice were central [my mum a barrister then criminologist], and I’ve long been drawn to the space where art, systems, and care overlap. I’ve spent years exploring arts-based justice projects, and I’m particularly interested in the role of creative health, as one facet of our holistic wellbeing.
Outside my 9–5, I’m a creative coach, writer, speaker, and facilitator, supporting artists, founders, and multi-hyphenates to build sustainable, joyful practices. Like I said, I believe creativity is part of our health. Coaching sessions often take place in bookshop cafés or studios, filled with Post-Its, matcha, and the occasional existential breakthrough.
As an artist and collector, my own creative practice explores the undervaluation of art and artists, often through satire and in conversation with politics, power, and justice.
